Job summary

Commercial Maintenance Services UK Ltd (CMS) is seeking a full-time, on-site Occupational Safety Health Specialist in Gateshead. You will develop and monitor health, safety and environment policies, conduct risk assessments, site inspections, and audits across CMS operations, with national travel as required.

You will train teams, collaborate with operations and HR, and contribute to continuous safety improvements while maintaining documentation and reports for internal and regulatory use.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong Health & Safety and Workplace Safety skills, including risk assessment, hazard identification, and incident investigation.
• Candidates should possess Occupational Health knowledge, including understanding of work-related health risks, ergonomics, and wellbeing initiatives.
• Candidates should possess Environment Health and Safety (EHS) capabilities, including familiarity with environmental compliance, safe handling of equipment, and sustainable practices.
• Candidates should possess Safety Training experience, including designing and delivering training sessions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
• Relevant professional qualifications such as NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent, and good knowledge of UK H&S legislation and best practice.
• Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills, with the ability to influence and coach colleagues at all levels.
• Experience in facilities, commercial maintenance, construction, or related technical environments is highly beneficial.
• Proficiency with basic IT tools (e.g., MS Office) and safety management systems, and a valid UK driving licence (6 points or under) for site visits, when required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct risk assessments, site inspections, and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
• Analyse incident and near-miss reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to managers and field teams.
• Support operations, HR and leadership to promote a strong safety culture and maintain documentation.
• Prepare reports for internal and regulatory purposes.
