Job summary

Cole & Yates Recruitment Ltd in Slough is seeking a SHEQ Manager to lead the company’s Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality affairs across projects in London and the South of England. You will develop RAMS, manage audits and drive continuous improvement of the Integrated Management System.

The role requires strong UK safety experience within landscaping or building construction, CDM 2015 knowledge, and the ability to manage a SHE Apprentice. Hybrid working with travel to sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Strong operational Health & Safety experience within landscaping or building construction.
• Knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation including CDM 2015 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
• Practical working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and their application within an Integrated Management System, including audits, evidence and corrective action.
• Experience developing RAMS, procedures and management-system documentation.
• Practical understanding of COSHH, PUWER, LOLER and other construction legislation.
• Experience maintaining certification, accreditation or external compliance portals.
• Experience delivering SHEQ training and coaching or mentoring junior staff.
• A relevant occupational Health & Safety qualification, with ongoing CPD.

Responsibilities

• Act as the company’s Health & Safety adviser, providing guidance on UK legislation and industry best practice.
• Review and continually improve SHEQ policies, RAMS and inspection systems.
• Plan inspections and audits across projects; investigate incidents and ensure corrective actions.
• Provide SHEQ input from tender through mobilisation, construction, handover and maintenance.
• Advise on CDM 2015 duties and Principal Contractor arrangements; support contractor competence.
• Maintain the Integrated Management System (ISO 9001/14001/45001) and prepare for audits.
• Coordinate audits and ensure evidence, non-conformities and close-out.
• Deliver SHEQ training and supervise a SHE Apprentice.

Reporting to theManaging Director, you will be the person colleagues turn to for practical,knowledgeable SHEQ advice and support. You will lead and maintain the company’sSHEQ arrangements across the full project lifecycle and line manage and developa SHE Apprentice.

What you will be doing

• Plan andundertake inspections and audits across projects and maintenance operations,investigate incidents and ensure findings and corrective actions are completed.
• ProvideSHEQ input from tender and pre-construction through mobilisation, construction,handover and ongoing maintenance.
• Advise onCDM 2015 duties and Principal Contractor arrangements and support contractorand supplier competence assurance.
• UndertakeAppointed Person or Temporary Works Coordinator duties only where separatelyand formally appointed and competent.
• Maintainand continually improve the Integrated Management System and arrangementssupporting ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
• Coordinateinternal and external audits, surveillance and recertification, includingevidence requirements and non-conformity close-out.
• Maintainenvironmental, sustainability and quality arrangements and administerConstructionline and other compliance or pre-qualification portals.
• Maintaintraining, competency and CPD records, deliver company-wide SHEQ training andsupport higher-risk activity authorisations.
• Linemanage and mentor the SHE Apprentice, providing structured development,coaching, supervised experience and staged competency support.
• Raisenon-conformities, require corrective action and stop any activity presenting animmediate or serious risk.

Location and travel

The office is nearSlough. The role requires regular travel to project sites across London and theSouth of England, with business travel expenses paid.

Requirements

• Strongoperational Health & Safety experience gained within landscaping orbuilding construction, together with practical experience of wider SHEQsystems.
• Strongknowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, including CDM 2015 and theHealth and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
• Practicalworking knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and their applicationwithin an Integrated Management System, including audits, evidence andcorrective action.
• Experiencedeveloping and critically reviewing RAMS, procedures and management-systemdocumentation.
• Practicalunderstanding of COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, working at height and other relevantconstruction legislation.
• Experiencemanaging or supporting certification, accreditation, pre-qualificationrequirements or external compliance portals.
• Experiencemaintaining training and competence records, delivering SHEQ training andcoaching or mentoring less-experienced SHEQ personnel.
• A relevantoccupational Health & Safety qualification, supported by ongoing continuingprofessional development.

Package and working pattern
