Job summary

Irwin and Colton is seeking a dedicated SHEQ Advisor for our Reading-based water and wastewater capital project delivery team. The role focuses on supporting a resilient, environmentally responsible water infrastructure programme across East Anglia.

The SHEQ Advisor will conduct regular site inspections and audits, provide safety and environmental guidance to managers and site teams, investigate incidents, and deliver toolbox talks. A driving licence is required.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or Construction Certificate or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and an analytical mindset for risk assessment and incident investigation.
  • Flexibility to cover the East Anglian region and a valid UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and tours to monitor safety, environmental compliance, and best practices.
  • Offer practical advice to managers and site teams on safe work planning and execution.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and environmental awareness sessions.
  • Promote a strong safety and environmental culture through engagement, coaching, and behavioural safety initiatives.
