Job summary

Alexander Associates Limited is seeking a SHEQ Advisor to join its Health, Safety, Environment and Quality team on a permanent or inside-IR35 contract. Travel to sites is required across the region, with a focus on delivering high standards of SHEQ performance across engineering and infrastructure projects.

You will provide practical guidance, promote a positive safety culture, support audits and incidents, and help ensure compliance with UK legislation and ISO 45001.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a SHEQ/HSE advisory role within engineering, construction, utilities, infrastructure, or similar.
  • Good working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation including CDM Regulations and HSE guidance.
  • Experience with integrated SHEQ management systems and ISO standards (ISO 45001).
  • Experience carrying out audits, inspections and supporting compliance activities.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret performance data and identify trends.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to influence operational teams.
  • High integrity, professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Ability to coach, support and positively influence others to improve SHEQ performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day SHEQ advice and support to project teams.
  • Promote proactive SHEQ performance across multiple sites.
  • Monitor corrective and preventive actions and ensure improvements.
  • Plan, coordinate internal audits, inspections and assurance activities.
  • Lead incident and accident investigations and recommend improvements.
  • Embed SHEQ best practice in project delivery with teams.
  • Build relationships with clients and stakeholders to drive SHEQ initiatives.
  • Analyze SHEQ performance data and produce reports for decision-making.
  • Support maintenance and continual improvement of certified management systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve sustainability, compliance, and business performance.

Job description

An established infrastructure and utilities organisation is seeking an experienced SHEQ Advisor to join its Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality team.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to support the delivery of high standards of SHEQ performance across a portfolio of engineering and infrastructure projects.

Working closely with the regional SHEQ leadership team and operational colleagues, you will provide practical guidance, promote a positive safety culture, and help ensure compliance with statutory and organisational requirements.

Permanent or contract (inside ir35). Travel to sites is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day SHEQ advice and support to operational and project teams.
  • Promote a proactive approach to health, safety, environmental, and quality performance across multiple sites.
  • Monitor corrective and preventive actions, ensuring effective implementation and continuous improvement.
  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in internal audits, inspections, and assurance activities.
  • Support and, where required, lead incident and accident investigations, identifying root causes and recommending improvements.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to understand operational challenges and embed SHEQ best practice throughout project delivery.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients and stakeholders to encourage collaborative SHEQ initiatives.
  • Analyse SHEQ performance data, identify trends, and produce reports to support informed decision-making.
  • Support the maintenance and continual improvement of certified management systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve sustainability, compliance, and overall business performance.
About You

You will have previous experience in a SHEQ, HSE, or Health & Safety advisory role within engineering, construction, utilities, infrastructure, or a similar operational environment.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Good working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations and HSE guidance.
  • Experience working with integrated SHEQ management systems and recognised ISO standards (such as ISO 45001).
  • Experience carrying out audits, inspections, and supporting compliance activities.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret performance data and identify trends.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A collaborative approach with the confidence to influence and support operational teams.
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • The ability to coach, support, and positively influence others to improve SHEQ performance.
