The Role
The Salesforce Data Consultant will play a key role in designing, analysing, governing, and implementing data solutions across HMRC's Salesforce platform. The role combines Salesforce Data Modelling, Data Analysis, and Salesforce Development expertise to support the delivery of scalable, secure, and data-driven public sector services.
The successful candidate will be responsible for defining Salesforce data models, analysing business and operational data, developing Salesforce solutions, and ensuring data quality, integrity, compliance, and accessibility across multiple business functions.
Primary Objectives
- Design scalable Salesforce data models aligned with HMRC business requirements.
- Analyse complex datasets and provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
- Develop Salesforce platform solutions using declarative and programmatic capabilities.
- Support data migration, integration, cleansing, and governance initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
- Enable effective use of Salesforce data for reporting, operational processing, and decision-making.
- Support Agile delivery teams in the development and enhancement of Salesforce applications.
- Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models within Salesforce.
- Define relationships between standard and custom Salesforce objects.
- Develop data dictionaries, metadata standards, and data lineage documentation.
- Ensure scalability, performance, and maintainability of Salesforce data structures.
- Support enterprise data architecture and integration strategies.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Gather, analyse, and interpret business and technical data requirements.
- Conduct data profiling, data quality assessments, and gap analysis.
- Create dashboards, reports, and KPIs using Salesforce reporting tools.
- Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Support business stakeholders with data-driven decision making.
- Design and develop Salesforce solutions using:
- Apex
- Validation Rules
- Process Automation
- Custom Objects and Fields
- Implement enhancements and bug fixes.
- Develop reusable and scalable Salesforce components.
- Perform code reviews and enforce development best practices.
Data Migration & Integration
- Support data migration activities from legacy systems to Salesforce.
- Design and validate ETL processes and data transformation rules.
- Work with integration teams to implement API-based integrations.
- Develop and support data synchronization processes across enterprise systems.
- Ensure data consistency across integrated applications.
Data Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with HMRC data governance standards.
- Implement data security and access controls.
- Support GDPR, audit, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Monitor data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Maintain documentation and traceability for audit purposes.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with Business Analysts, Product Owners, Architects, and Development Teams.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Reviews, and Retrospectives.
- Translate business requirements into technical and data solutions.

- Experience working within Government, Public Sector, or GDS programmes.
- Experience with enterprise integration platforms and API-led architectures.
- Knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM) principles.
- Experience with data governance and regulatory compliance frameworks.
- Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD processes within Salesforce environments.
