Job Description

Do you enjoy coaching and developing the skills of others? Do you enjoy developing processes by working with colleagues across different teams to secure transparent and effective environmental regulation?

You will join a water quality-focused regulatory team of specialists enabling strategic change within the water sector, particularly focusing on storm overflows. Working proactively with Environment Agency teams and external organisations, the role will lead the development of audit processes for water quality investigations under the Storm Overflows Assessment Framework and Environment Act. You will also develop training courses on Urban Pollution Management (UPM), respond to technical queries, and coach staff on sewerage and water quality investigations.

Our dispersed team works with various teams across the country involved in water industry regulation and water quality planning. Responding to incidents is central to our work. You may have an incident role, making yourself available to respond or provide business continuity support during incidents, which could include additional pay and full training.

The Team

This role is part of the Water Quality Regulatory Development team in Water Industry Regulation. The team is dispersed nationwide. The successful candidate must be able to work independently while maintaining effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

We promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued. We leverage evidence, expertise, and innovation to enhance delivery, influence policy, and secure resources.

  • A relevant degree such as civil engineering or environmental science, with ongoing professional development.
  • Experience with sewer modelling and/or river quality impact modelling for UPM studies, including audits.
  • Knowledge of environmental planning and regulation of Water and Sewerage Companies.
  • Excellent organizational skills and effective coaching ability.
  • Experience in embedding new approaches into organizations, developing new processes through collaboration across dispersed teams.
