Job summary

The London Borough of Newham is seeking a dynamic Sessional Tutor to deliver adult education across the borough. The role requires evening work as needed and a commitment to learner success, using digital learning technologies to enhance outcomes.

Salary is £30.70 - £32.60 per hour (including supplements). A teaching qualification or willingness to gain one is essential; experience in planning and delivering high-quality learning programmes is preferred.

ONLS is the London Borough of Newham adult education service providing learning to residents in the borough. Following the most recent inspection by Ofsted in March 2025 we continue to be a ‘Good’ and high-quality provider.

We are seeking dynamic and flexible practitioners in a number of curriculum areas with a passion for lifelong learning to deliver in the adult learning provision across the Borough of Newham.

You will be committed to learner success and our drive to put learners at the heart of everything we do; and you will be a truly inspiring and innovative teacher committed to the use of digital learning technologies. You will be expected to work evenings as required.

Your knowledge and credibility in your subject area will help ensure outstanding learning experience and positively impact on learner achievement.

A teaching qualification or a willingness to get qualified is essential and experience of planning and delivering high quality learning programmes is preferable.

The closing date for the receipt of applications is Friday 2nd October 2026. We will recruit on a rolling basis, up until the closing date, we reserve the right to close the recruitment earlier once we have filled our vacant tutor positions.

About Us

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
