Qualifications

ABOUT THE JOB

Newham has created an exciting opportunity to work within a new team of SEND Case Officers to contribute in the delivery of SEND provision for children and young people aged 0 to 25. Our children need case officers who are strong, competent and experienced in undertaking and contributing to assessments. Our Case Officers will be at the heart of making a meaningful impact on the lives of children and young people within Newham.

Newham's SEND Case Officers will oversee a range of case work and prioritise person centred planning with children, young people and their families to ensure that the needs and ambitions of each child is fully reflected in their plans.

Our case work team is part of a broader multi-agency SEND service that comprises of travel, education psychology, tribunals and special educational support services, which includes a speech and language team. The service shares a commitment to deliver positive and successful outcomes for children with SEND with colleagues across Children’s Services in areas such as Health and Social Care.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for candidates with a good knowledge of legislative frameworks including the Education Act (1996) and Children and Families Act (2014) and SEND Code of Practice (2015). You will have relevant experience of working within an education, childcare, local authority setting and/or a related profession with recent experience of managing full and varied caseloads, including children and young people with complex and additional needs.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to negotiate, persuade, build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels. Your empathic approach and high level of emotional intelligence mean you will thrive in this demanding, public facing role. You will be ready to work independently to prioritise your workload at pace. You will be well organised and adept at using IT such as Microsoft office programmes including Teams and case management systems.
