Newham Council is working to ensure there is greater investment in public spaces and more opportunities for young people. This includes leading a landmark project to transform the historic Canning Town Old Library into Newham Heritage Centre, the borough’s newest cultural hub.

When construction work is completed, the building will contain an inspiring new exhibition space, reading room and bespoke archive storage, digital suite, learning space, venue hire space and a cafe. This ambitious project, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, will establish a new cultural destination for the borough and connect people who are living, working and studying in Newham.

About The Job

We are seeking a Learning & Engagement Apprentice to join Newham Heritage Centre's team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about heritage, culture and community engagement. The role will involve working closely with people, responding to visitor needs and supporting the delivery of our ambitious creative activity programme. The Learning & Engagement Apprentice will have the unique opportunity get ‘hands-on’ practical experience, working on a range of community and visitor focused activities at Newham Heritage Centre's. They will work behind the scenes as we prepare for Newham Heritage Centre's opening as well as have a front facing role in visitor and participant activities after opening.

Details of the Job

As An Apprentice At Newham, You Will Receive

• 18 month fixed-term contract with Newham Council.
• Quality training, to include one day a week learning with an accredited education provider based in central London.

About Us

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium.
