Job summary

LDN London in Harrow seeks dedicated Special Needs Play Workers to engage children and young people in inclusive, fun activities while providing person-centred support. You will work within a values-driven team delivering high-quality services for families and upholding safeguarding standards.

The role requires at least 2 years of relevant experience, a passion for SEND, strong communication skills, and reliability. DBS checks apply; 18+ and UK driving licence are advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children or young adults in childcare, education, youth work or a similar field.
  • Experience supporting children with SEND.
  • Strong understanding of person-centred approaches, inclusive practice, and child development.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to work with families, colleagues, and professionals.
  • Confident using IT systems to record plans, incidents, and updates.
  • A full UK driving licence is a plus; driving our minibus for trips may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Engage children and young adults in fun and meaningful activities (storytelling, dance, music, arts & crafts, sports, trips).
  • Provide person-centred support to ensure the best experience for each child.
  • Support children with self-care and communication needs.
  • Demonstrate kindness, choice, and ambition in all tasks.
  • Plan and deliver inclusive 1:1 and group activities.
  • Implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies.
  • Record progress and incidents on electronic systems.
  • Promote positive relationships and reduce stress triggers.
  • Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and food safety policies.
  • Contribute to Ofsted readiness and service quality.
