Job summary

Tesco UK is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to perform planned and reactive maintenance across a range of systems in our stores. You’ll identify and resolve issues, prioritising safety and quality while contributing to a safe, welcoming customer environment.

This hands-on role involves working with lifts, doors, and related equipment, with ongoing training and opportunities to develop your career within Tesco’s recognised retail brand.

Qualifications

• ONC or equivalent and recognised mechanical apprenticeship or NVQ level 2/3 are required.
• Demonstrated health and safety awareness and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Experience with lift systems and access control is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out maintenance and repairs on passenger/goods lifts, scissor lifts, travelators/escators and other equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns swiftly to minimise downtime and maintain operations.
• Conduct inspections, testing and certification for safe operation and compliance.
• Document all maintenance activity using digital reporting tools.
• Collaborate with site operations teams to ensure safe, minimal-disruption work.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance procedures.

As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician at Tesco across areas, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our stores remains a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for customers and colleagues alike. You’ll be part of a skilled team responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across a range of systems and equipment, helping to keep our operations running smoothly.

Your work will directly impact the shopping experience of thousands of customers every day. You’ll use your technical expertise to identify and resolve issues efficiently, always prioritising safety, compliance, and quality.

This is a hands‑on role that requires a proactive mindset, strong problem‑solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high standards. • Dock Levellers
• DDLS systems
• Back Yard Gates (BYG’s)
• Sectional Doors
• Roller Shutters
• Rapid Roll Doors
• Fire Shutters
• Compactors and Balers
• Pallet Stackers
• Respond to breakdowns swiftly and effectively to minimize downtime
• Conduct inspections, testing and certification to ensure compliance and safe operation

Operational Skills:

• Completed all technical training upskilling modules relevant to skillset

Relevant Experience:

• Proven experience with diverse access control and lift systems
• Strong mechanical fault‑finding and diagnostic abilities
• Familiarity with powered doors, lifting platforms, and compacting equipment
• Understanding of safety and regulatory requirements for workplace machinery
