Job summary

Tesco Stores Limited in Liverpool region is seeking a Mechanical Service Maintenance Technician to service Tesco stores across Liverpool and surrounding areas. You’ll carry out planned and reactive maintenance on loading dock equipment, doors, lifts and related systems to ensure safe, efficient store operations.

The role requires hands-on problem solving, safety focus, and good communication with site teams.

Qualifications

• ONC or equivalent qualification in mechanical maintenance.
• Recognised Mechanical Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 2/3.
• Full driving licence.
• Health & Safety awareness.
• Communication & stakeholder management.
• Office 365 knowledge.
• Completed all technical training upskilling modules relevant to skillset.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance and repairs on listed equipment: Dock Levellers, DDLS systems, Scissor Lifts, Doors, Rollers, Pallet stackers.
• Respond to breakdowns swiftly to minimise downtime.
• Conduct inspections, testing and certification for compliance and safe operation.
• Document maintenance activity with digital reporting tools.
• Collaborate with site operations teams to ensure safe, minimal disruption.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance procedures.

About the role

As a Mechanical Service Maintenance Technician at Tesco covering Liverpool and surrounding areas, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our stores remains a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for customers and colleagues alike. You’ll be part of a skilled team responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across a range of systems and equipment, helping to keep our operations running smoothly.

Your work will directly impact the shopping experience of thousands of customers every day. You’ll use your technical expertise to identify and resolve issues efficiently, always prioritising safety, compliance, and quality.

This is a hands-on role that requires a proactive mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high standards. You will be responsible for

Carrying out maintenance and repairs on:

• Dock Levellers
• DDLS systems
• Scissor Lifts
• Back Yard Gates (BYG’s)
• Sectional Doors
• Roller Shutters
• Rapid Roll Doors
• Pallet Stackers
• Respond to breakdowns swiftly and effectively to minimize downtime
• Conduct inspections, testing and certification to ensure compliance and safe operation
• Document all maintenance activity accurately using digital reporting tools
• Collaborate with site operations teams to ensure work is performed safely and with minimal disruption
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance procedures

You will need

Operational Skills

• ONC or equivalent
• Recognised Mechanical Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 2/3

Relevant Experience

• Proven experience with diverse access control and lift systems
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic abilities
• Familiarity with powered doors, lifting platforms, and compacting equipment
• Understanding of safety and regulatory requirements for workplace machinery
