Service Designer - Consultant (SC cleared)

Akkodis is currently partnering with a leading service provider to recruit an experienced Service Designer passionate about user-centred design, critical thinking, problem solving, and designing and building digital services and products.

Please note this is a hybrid role (based in London, Manchester, or Glasgow) with occasional travel to client sites. Candidates must hold current security clearance.

The Role

As a Service Designer, you will champion inclusive design practices throughout project lifecycles, ensuring solutions are accessible to as many users as possible. This involves engaging with diverse user research, applying accessibility guidelines and legislation, and advocating for inclusive design principles in your deliverables.

The Responsibilities

1. Maximise value from the inception to real-life application of Service Design.
2. Support clients through the end-to-end service design process to develop innovative products and services, from ideation to solution build and testing.
3. Champion user-centricity by utilizing tools and methods to embed design thinking and user-centric approaches.
4. Collaborate on new ideas and work alongside solution teams to design and develop innovative products and services.
5. Use current and emerging trends to identify and lead improvements to existing services, introducing innovative service experiences and influencing stakeholders such as service managers, user researchers, UI/UX designers, and programme directors.

The Requirements

1. Proven experience working across a service design process independently with minimal support.
2. Experience applying Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and design principles.
3. Ability to create service design artefacts such as user journeys, personas, service blueprints, and concepts.
4. Ability to identify accessibility barriers for complex user groups.
5. Experience facilitating workshops, design sprints, and ideation sessions.
6. Ability to visualise complex services clearly for diverse audiences.
7. Strong experience working in an agile (scrum) environment within cross-functional teams.
8. Excellent stakeholder management skills, capable of balancing differing views during the design process.
9. A passion for user-centricity, with the ability to develop user stories and propose suitable design approaches.
