Job summary

WestonBrook Associates, a Watford-based independent firm of Chartered Accountants, is recruiting a Service Charge Accountant to join a specialist division serving landlords, RMCs, managing agents and property investors.

You will prepare and review service charge accounts for residential and commercial properties, ensuring compliance with legislation and industry practice. The role blends technical accounting with client advisory work and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• AAT qualification or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2+ years' experience preparing service charge accounts.
• Knowledge of landlord and tenant legislation affecting service charge reporting.
• Excellent analytical and reconciliatory skills.
• Proficient with Excel and accounting systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare annual service charge accounts for residential and commercial developments.
• Produce and review accounts for landlords, RMCS, right-to-manage companies and service charge trusts.
• Ensure compliance with Landlord and Tenant Act and Leasehold Reform legislation.
• Assist with statutory accounts and Companies House filing where required.
• Prepare expenditure statements, reconciliations and schedules.
• Review lease provisions to ensure proper accounting of service charge income/ expenditure.
• Advise on transaction allocations between landlord accounts and service charge funds.
• Support clients with service charge accounting queries and technical matters.
• Ensure accounts comply with RICS guidance and best practice for commercial properties.
• Liaise with property managers, landlords, leaseholders to resolve queries.
