Job summary

National Gas is recruiting a Senior Welding Engineer to provide technical leadership across welding engineering, materials, NDT, pipeline integrity, and repair activities for the UK's critical energy infrastructure. The role spans responsibilities across multiple National Gas sites with regular travel.

The ideal candidate holds a Degree in Welding Engineering or related field, Chartered Engineer status or progress towards it, and relevant qualifications (IWE/EWE, CSWIP/BGAS/PCN).

Qualifications

• Degree in Welding Engineering or related field is required.
• Significant experience in welding engineering, materials engineering, pipeline integrity, NDT, or pressure systems engineering in regulated environments.
• Strong knowledge of welding processes, procedures, inspection requirements, and repair methods.
• Experience with pipeline systems and critical infrastructure; understanding of materials behaviour and fitness-for-service.
• Chartered Engineer status or demonstrable progress toward registration; full UK driving licence; IWE/EWE qualifications and welding inspection qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical authority for welding engineering, materials performance, NDT, and pipeline integrity.
• Provide expert advice on complex engineering challenges affecting critical energy infrastructure.
• Lead technical assurance activities ensuring safety, quality, and compliance.
• Review and influence engineering standards, welding procedures, inspection requirements, and best practices.
• Support supplier assurance, construction quality, and technical governance across the asset lifecycle.
• Investigate technical issues and develop risk-based, robust solutions for safe operations.
