About Us

At National Gas, the work we do matters.

As Britain's national gas network, we help keep the lights on, businesses running, and homes warm by maintaining the critical infrastructure that transports gas across Great Britain. While providing the energy security Britain relies on today, we're also helping transform the network for a clean energy future.

Join us and help secure Britain's energy.

About The Role

As a Senior Welding Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across welding engineering, materials, non-destructive testing (NDT), pipeline integrity, and repair activities that help keep Britain's energy infrastructure safe, reliable, and resilient.

We're recruiting for opportunities across several areas of National Gas, giving you the chance to apply your expertise where it can have the greatest impact on the operation, maintenance, and future development of critical national infrastructure.

Why this role matters

The UK's gas transmission network is critical to energy security. This role helps ensure the safe operation, maintenance, development, and future evolution of the assets that millions of homes and businesses rely on every day.

You’ll provide expert guidance on complex engineering challenges, influence technical decisions, develop industry-leading standards, and help shape how National Gas delivers safe, efficient, and innovative solutions now and for the future.

Where you could make an impact
National Gas Services (NGS)

Providing inspection, maintenance, repair, and emergency response services across the gas industry. Supporting the full asset lifecycle, from new connections and infrastructure delivery through to ongoing maintenance, inspection, repair, and emergency response, you'll apply specialist welding and integrity expertise to help keep critical energy infrastructure operating safely and reliably.

This area may particularly appeal to those with experience in operational engineering, maintenance, inspection, repair activities, project delivery, or customer-facing technical roles.

Engineering & Asset Management

Establishing the standards, policies, and assurance frameworks that underpin the safe and efficient operation of our network. You'll help shape engineering policy, provide technical authority on pipeline integrity and repair, and support risk-based decisions that protect critical national infrastructure.

This area may particularly appeal to those with experience in asset integrity, engineering governance, technical assurance, standards development, or risk-based decision-making.

Major Programmes

Delivering some of the UK's largest and most important infrastructure investments, including pipelines, compressors, control systems, hydrogen, and carbon capture projects. You'll provide welding, materials, and NDT expertise across major capital programmes, helping ensure assets are designed, constructed, inspected, and commissioned safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.

This area may particularly appeal to those with experience in major projects, construction assurance, welding quality management, NDT oversight, contractor management, or large-scale infrastructure delivery.
