The consultancy delivers a wide range of sustainable water engineering solutions for public and private-sector clients, with expertise spanning SuDS, flood risk management, flood alleviation, drainage, hydraulic modelling and environmental enhancement.

With a growing Manchester presence and a strong pipeline of work, this is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Water & Drainage Engineer who wants to take greater ownership of projects, work closely with clients and help shape the continued growth of the regional team.
You'll work across a varied portfolio of water and environmental projects, from smaller SuDS schemes through to larger flood alleviation and drainage projects, providing involvement throughout the project lifecycle.

The Role

As a Senior Water & Drainage Engineer, you'll take responsibility for the technical delivery of projects while working closely with clients, stakeholders and colleagues across the wider business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering water and drainage projects from feasibility and concept through to detailed design and construction.
  • Developing SuDS, drainage and flood alleviation schemes for public and private-sector clients.
  • Developing hydraulic models and undertaking analysis to inform engineering solutions.
  • Producing high-quality civil and drainage design packages.
  • Preparing technical reports, drawings, calculations and specifications.
  • Working directly with clients, local authorities and other stakeholders to progress schemes.
  • Supporting project and commercial management, including programmes, resources and deliverables.
  • Providing technical input into larger and more complex projects.
  • Contributing to flood risk assessments, drainage strategies and feasibility studies.
  • Supporting bids, fee proposals and business development activity.
  • Mentoring and supporting graduate and junior engineers.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider business.
  • Ensuring designs consider sustainability, environmental impact, health and safety and buildability.
About You

We're looking for an experienced water and drainage professional who is technically strong, commercially aware and confident dealing with clients and project stakeholders.
You'll ideally have:

  • Strong experience in water engineering, drainage, flood risk management or SuDS design.
  • Experience delivering projects through feasibility, detailed design and construction.
  • Experience with InfoDrainage or similar drainage/hydraulic modelling software.
  • Good CAD skills, ideally including Civil 3D.
  • Experience with hydraulic modelling would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of UK drainage and flood risk management principles and standards.
  • Experience working with local authorities, developers or other public/private-sector clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered status would be advantageous.

Experience in flood alleviation, foul water design, GIS, natural flood management or river restoration would also be beneficial.

Why Join?

This is a great opportunity to join a growing consultancy where senior engineers have genuine responsibility and the opportunity to influence projects, clients and the development of the Manchester team.
The company offers:

  • Employee ownership, with employees able to share in the success of the business through a profit-share scheme.
  • A strong and varied pipeline of water and environmental projects.
  • The opportunity to work on projects delivering tangible benefits to communities and the environment.
  • Opportunities to develop into technical, project and team leadership positions.
  • Support towards Chartered status and professional qualifications.
  • Professional institution membership funded by the business.
  • Flexible and hybrid working.
  • A monthly wellbeing allowance.
  • A collaborative and supportive working environment.
  • A strong focus on sustainability and community wellbeing.
  • The opportunity to work for a B Corp-certified consultancy with a clear commitment to responsible engineering.
