Job summary

ERSG Ltd is seeking a Senior Water Consultant for an interim assignment to support the delivery of water, flood risk and drainage projects across the UK. The role requires a strong understanding of UK policies, hands-on hydraulic modelling with Flood Modeller Pro or TUFLOW, and hydrological analysis using FEH methods.

• Strong understanding of UK flood risk and drainage policy (NPPF).
• Experience delivering consultancy projects with programme, budget and quality controls.
• Hands-on hydraulic modelling using Flood Modeller Pro and/or TUFLOW.
• Experience undertaking hydrological analysis using FEH methods.
• Familiarity with ReFH2 and WINFAP tools.
• Proficient GIS (QGIS) and MS Office.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Causeway Flow.

• Support development and assessment of drainage strategies and SuDS.
• Work collaboratively with project teams, clients and stakeholders to achieve objectives.
• Share knowledge and provide support to junior team members.
• Assist with preparation of technical documentation, data analysis and project deliverables.

Senior Water Consultant

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Water Consultant for an interim assignment supporting the delivery of water, flood risk and drainage projects across the UK.

The role is ideally suited to a consultant with a strong understanding of UK flood risk and drainage policy, experience in hydraulic modelling and hydrological analysis, and the ability to contribute effectively to project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of water, flood risk and drainage consultancy projects, ensuring work meets agreed programme, budget and quality requirements.
• Undertake and contribute to hydraulic modelling assessments using relevant industry software.
• Carry out hydrological analysis using Flood Estimation Handbook (FEH) methodologies and associated tools.
• Apply knowledge of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and UK flood risk and drainage policy to project assessments.
• Contribute to technical reports, flood risk assessments and Environmental Statement chapters where required.
• Support the development and assessment of drainage strategies and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
• Work collaboratively with project teams, clients and relevant stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
• Share technical knowledge and provide support to junior team members where appropriate.
• Assist with the preparation of technical documentation, data analysis and project deliverables.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Good understanding of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and UK flood risk and drainage policy.
• Experience supporting the delivery of consultancy projects, with an understanding of programme, budget and quality requirements.
• Practical experience using hydraulic modelling software, particularly Flood Modeller Pro and/or TUFLOW.
• Experience undertaking hydrological analysis using Flood Estimation Handbook (FEH)
• Familiarity with hydrological tools such as ReFH2 and WINFAP.
• Competence in GIS software, such as QGIS, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders.
• A collaborative approach and willingness to support and share knowledge with junior team members.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience using InfoWorks ICM.
• Experience contributing to Environmental Statement chapters.
• Awareness of the Water Framework Directive (WFD).
• Understanding of drainage strategies and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Causeway Flow.
