Job summary

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking experienced Senior Nurses to join the General Surgical Department at Whiston Hospital. You will support the Ward Manager in the day-to-day clinical operation and lead a team to deliver safe, patient-centred care on 33-bed 4C and 32-bed 4B wards.

The role requires acute surgical experience at Band 5 or above, excellent communication, leadership and clinical skills.

Qualifications

• Experience leading nursing teams in a surgical setting.
• Ability to supervise junior staff and ensure safe, competent care.
• Strong communication with multidisciplinary teams and patients.

Responsibilities

• Act as clinical expert for nursing issues.
• Supervise junior staff in safe, competent care.
• Address issues or risk promptly.
• Promote patient-focused multidisciplinary care with carers and health professionals.
• Ensure safe and timely discharge/transfer of patients.
• Ensure treatments prescribed by the medical team are carried out and escalated as needed.
• Contribute to the Enhanced Recovery Programme and adherence to its principles.
• Advocate for the patient respecting dignity and wishes.
