Job summary

SSE plc is seeking an Enhanced Unit Operator at Peterhead Power Station. You will monitor plant condition, diagnose faults, and report defects while ensuring operations stay within Environmental Permits and safety rules.

You’ll work across all unit configurations and optimise thermal efficiency. Key duties include maintaining logs and reports, mentoring junior operators, and stepping in as Senior Authorised Person and related roles.

Qualifications

• Minimum of an HNC level qualification in an engineering discipline or other technical subject, or extensive operational experience at a large Thermal Power Station.
• Comprehensive understanding of Safe System of Work and Safety Rules and the responsibilities of the authorised roles.
• Knowledge of reporting requirements under REMIT.
• Awareness of Environmental permits and operational limits.
• Proven ability to supervise and support a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate station logs and deliver operational reports.
• Assist Shift Group Leader in training and mentoring.
• Enact roles of Senior Authorised Person, Authorised Person, Selected Person, Work Controller and Working Party Leader as defined in Safe System of Work.
• Provide stand-in cover for the Shift Group Leader and oversee day-to-day shift operations.
• Perform Emergency Response duties per Bronze Level incident response.
