Job summary

HDI Global is expanding its London Fine Art & Specie underwriting team as part of a Lloyd's syndicate establishment. You will underwrite, review and service Fine Art and Specie risks, while strengthening broker relationships and identifying profitable growth opportunities.

You will join a globally connected team, aligning with international capabilities to deliver a unified Fine Art & Specie proposition. The role requires strong analytical, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.

Qualifications

• Detailed understanding of the Fine Art & Specie market in London and internationally.
• Proven track record of developing and managing broker relationships and delivering profitable results.
• Strong grasp of insurance for clients' collections and needs.
• Up-to-date knowledge of insurance laws and regulatory frameworks.
• Knowledge of policy construction across risk codes.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite, review, peer-review, and service Specie and Fine Art risks.

2027 marks an exciting new chapter for HDI in London. Following approval to establish a Lloyd's syndicate, we are expanding our Fine Art & Specie proposition and creating new opportunities to write business through both Company and Lloyd's platforms.

The role

We are looking for an ambitious underwriter who wants to be part of building something! You'll have the opportunity to strengthen existing broker relationships, identify profitable growth opportunities, and help shape the future direction of the portfolio.

Working as part of a globally connected underwriting team, you will help bring together our established Fine Art portfolio in London with our international Specie capabilities, creating a unified proposition across all Fine Art & Specie risk codes.

Key accountabilities

• Contribute significantly to business planning and strategy.
• Underwrite, review, peer-review and service Specie and Fine Art risks in line with Underwriting Authority, the business plan, and all internal rules and guidelines.
• Develop, maintain and strengthen long-term relationships with brokers at all levels to grow a book of profitable business, provide excellent service and promote HDI as an insurer of choice
• Monitor the performance of the account and suggest appropriate modifications to underwriting guidelines, wordings, clauses and rates.
• Mentor and develop more junior members of the team, fostering collaboration, technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
• Continuously review processes and procedures and recommend improvements in efficiency where necessary.
• Monitor aggregations and maintain reports.
• Provide information to the claims team and assist claims in delivering key messages to brokers and clients where appropriate. Help ensure that market-leading claims service is at the forefront of our offering to clients and brokers.
• Represent HDI at market events, broker meetings and industry forums, acting as an ambassador for the Fine Art & Specie business.
• Participation in special projects as required.
• Nurture a culture of strong collaboration with HDI colleagues around the world.

Skills & experience

• Detailed understanding of the Fine Art & Specie market in London and internationally, including key brokers, competitors, distribution channels and market dynamics.
• Demonstrable track record of developing and managing broker relationships and delivering profitable results.
• Understand clients’ collections, businesses and their needs and challenges around insurance.
• Have up to date knowledge of existing insurance laws and legal frameworks and awareness of upcoming changes.
• Complete technical understanding about policy construction across all 4 risk codes.
• Strong written communication skills to ensure clear and correct drafting of clauses and conditions.
• Highly numerate with a good understanding of analytics and pricing tools.
• Complete understanding of what data needs to be captured for regulatory and analytical purposes.
• MS Office skills including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Power BI. Proficient in using Excel, including the use of pivot tables.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with external clients and internal stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent negotiation and networking skills.
• Ability to set clear goals and take responsibility for decisions and can explain and justify the need for certain actions.
• Demonstrate curiosity alongside a positive and proactive mindset and a willingness to embrace change.
