Overview

Please note this role could be based in either our Birmingham or Bristol office. As a Senior PI Underwriter, you will be responsible for adding to the sustainable growth of the Professional Indemnity book by delivering profitable premium and conversion growth across the business and contributing in developing and implementation of the underwriting strategy. You will help drive the strategic planning/direction of the business and its products. You will also be responsible for interacting and collaborating with colleagues internally and building relationships with new brokers as well as maintaining and improving existing broker relationships and partner insurers.

How you'll make an impact

• Underwrite and assess risk adhering to the underwriting philosophy, rules and guidelines, use of rating tools and pricing methodologies, and documentation standards to maximise business growth and profitability.
• Actively participate in seeking new business opportunities within existing relationships and within the wider insurance market.
• Engage with brokers in servicing and renewal of the existing book that supports underwriting strategy, consistent with business growth and target loss ratio.
• Take underwriting referrals, provide expert underwriting guidance, coaching, and mentoring to less experienced underwriters.
• Develop and maintain strong broker relationships across regions, contributing to a sustainable professional indemnity portfolio.
• Develop and leverage relationships within other departments to optimize processes and efficiency.
• Participate in strategy, sales, and underwriting meetings.
• Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to identify opportunities and threats.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

About You

• Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certification preferred.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in professional indemnity underwriting.
• Working knowledge of the local insurance marketplace.
• Ability and desire to learn about critical business issues and financial drivers.
• Knowledge of organizational and regulatory rules, policies, and procedures.
• Customer focus and positive broker interaction skills.
• Basic analytical thinking and financial acumen.
• Ability to identify problems or opportunities, analyze information, and support sound decision making.
