• Experience in portfolio monitoring, loss ratio analysis and performance improvement.
• Ability to interpret claims trends and market intelligence.

Role Overview

An experienced underwriting professional responsible for managing and growing a profitable commercial property and casualty portfolio. The role focuses on complex risk assessment, new business development, broker relationship management, portfolio performance and supporting the development of junior colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite complex and higher-value commercial risks across property owners, commercial combined and construction.
• Drive profitable new business growth through proactive broker engagement and relationship development.
• Manage renewals, retention and portfolio growth while maintaining underwriting quality.
• Assess referrals, provide technical guidance and support consistent underwriting decisions.
• Monitor portfolio performance and loss ratios, identifying underperforming accounts and implementing corrective actions.
• Use claims data, exposure analysis and market intelligence to inform pricing and risk selection.
• Identify opportunities for schemes and delegated underwriting arrangements.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to team income and growth targets.

Skills & Experience

• At least five years’ commercial P&C underwriting experience, with a proven record of portfolio growth.
• Strong technical expertise across property owners, commercial combined and construction, including complex and specialist risks.
• Established broker relationships and a track record of profitable business development.
• Strong analytical, negotiation and commercial decision-making skills.
• Experience in portfolio monitoring, loss ratio analysis and performance improvement.
• Ability to interpret claims trends, statistical data and market intelligence.
• CII qualified or working towards Diploma level or above.
• Self-motivated, commercially focused and committed to developing colleagues.
