Job summary

The National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxfordshire, seeks a Senior Quantum Scientist to advance trapped ion quantum computing. You will design, build and optimise sub-systems, run experiments, and contribute to open-architecture system blueprints, collaborating with hardware, software and external partners.

The role offers national programme exposure, with opportunities to publish results and present at workshops, while developing system-level

Qualifications

PhD in Physics, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
Strong knowledge of quantum computing or related technologies.
Hands-on experience with trapped ion quantum computing platforms or related quantum tech.
Experience designing, implementing, automating experiments, including software/control routines.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, assemble, and optimise trapped ion quantum computing sub-systems.
Develop and run experiments to characterise device performance and qubit fidelity.
Contribute to integration of sub-systems into full-stack quantum platforms.
