BBC Media Operations is seeking a Senior Transport Manager for Wales to lead the planning, maintenance and regulatory compliance of our transport fleet in Cardiff. You’ll work with production and operations teams to ensure vehicles are roadworthy, safe and available to support broadcasting across the UK.

You’ll apply strategic thinking to solve complex logistic challenges, manage driver hours frameworks and liaise with suppliers to secure high-quality services.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing statutory compliance in complex, regulated transport environments.
  • Ability to think strategically while solving operational problems hands-on.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills for diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience managing regulated vehicle operating centres and driver hours frameworks.
  • Practical experience ensuring maintenance and roadworthiness of large vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee forward planning and coordination of vehicle maintenance and compliance.
  • Ensure fleet vehicles remain roadworthy, efficient, and cost effective.
  • Liaise with suppliers to secure timely, high quality, and value driven services.

  • PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £50,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITES AND IMPACT

Essential Criteria

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE – KEY CRITERIA

  • Strong experience managing statutory compliance within complex or regulated transport environments
  • Proven ability to operate strategically while solving operational problems hands on
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, able to tailor complex information for varied stakeholders
  • Experience managing regulated vehicle operating centres and driver hours frameworks
  • Demonstrable practical experience ensuring maintenance and roadworthiness of large vehicles
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
  • Certificate of Professional Competence for Transport Managers (Road Haulage) Level 3
  • IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent health & safety qualifications
  • Understanding of programme making or newsgathering operational needs
  • LGV1 driving licence
  • Experience promoting and supporting sustainable transport approaches
