Job summary

Rise Recruitment is partnering with a leading North West food retailer/wholesaler to recruit a Senior Trading Manager. You will own the Buying & Category Strategy for a key ambient grocery range, develop compelling ranges, onboard suppliers, negotiate terms, maintain contracts, and lead in-season promotions.

A leading food retailer and wholesaler in the North West is seeking a Senior Trading Manager to take full ownership of one of its key ambient grocery categories. With award‑winning products, exceptional service standards and a reputation as an employer of choice, this is a fast‑paced environment where your decisions genuinely shape commercial performance.

What you’ll be responsible for

• Owning the Buying & Category Strategy for your range in a predominantly brand-led category.
• Developing and launching compelling, competitive ranges that meet customer needs.
• Identifying, onboarding and managing suppliers, strengthening long‑term partnerships.
• Negotiating sharp cost prices, particularly across major FMCG brands, to maximise margin.
• Maintaining accurate contracts, price files and commercial documentation.
• Leading in‑season promotional planning to drive sales, margin and supplier income.

What we’re looking for

• An experienced Senior Buyer / Senior Trader from the FMCG retail or wholesale food sector, with experience of dealing with the bug branded suppliers in Ambient Grocery.
• Proven end‑to‑end category ownership with a track record of delivering commercial results.
• Strong supplier‑relationship and negotiation skills, with confidence in securing competitive terms.
• A curious, commercially minded operator who stays ahead of market trends and keeps customers at the heart of decision‑making.
