Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is supporting a growing planning consultancy in Cheltenham to recruit a Senior/Principal Town Planner. The role covers management of applications, report preparation and client-facing advice across public and private sectors.

You will mentor junior colleagues, contribute to business development and maintain knowledge of UK planning legislation. Hybrid working, strong career progression and competitive package are offered.

Qualifications

• Degree in Town Planning or related discipline.
• MRTPI accreditation desirable; chartership candidates considered.
• At least 3 years planning experience in public or private sector.
• Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and current legislation.
• Experience handling planning applications and development management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage workload and work independently.
• Experience with landowners and developers; commercially minded.

Responsibilities

• Managing and processing planning applications from submission to determination.
• Preparing robust planning reports, recommendations and supporting docs.
• Providing professional planning advice to landowners, developers and clients.
• Preparing and presenting evidence for planning appeals.
• Staying up to date with planning legislation, policy and guidance.
• Working across a broad range of planning sectors and development types.
• Mentoring junior team members and supporting business development.
• Building client relationships and contributing to repeat business.
• Supporting growth and improving the planning service.
