Job summary

TipTopJob is seeking a Senior Town Planner to join their Sheffield office. You will lead a varied portfolio of planning projects across sectors, provide high-quality advice, and develop planning strategies.

The role requires RTPI accreditation or progress toward chartership, strong UK planning knowledge, and experience managing applications from feasibility to determination. Hybrid working and a contributory pension are offered.

Qualifications

• RTPI chartership is required or in progress.
• Significant experience in planning consultancy, developer, or local authority.
• Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and development management process.
• Experience managing planning applications from inception to determination.
• Experience working on complex or high-profile development schemes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a varied portfolio of planning projects.
• Provide high-quality planning advice to clients across sectors.
• Develop and implement planning strategies for complex proposals.
• Manage and coordinate planning applications from feasibility to determination.
• Prepare and review planning reports and technical documentation.
• Liaise with local planning authorities and stakeholders.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams and maintain programme; build client relationships.
• Support business development and identify opportunities to grow client relationships.
• Contribute to the wider development and success of the consultancy.
• Mentor junior team members.

Duties For The Role Of Senior Town Planner

• Leading and managing a varied portfolio of planning projects.
• Providing high:quality planning advice to clients across a range of development sectors.
• Developing and implementing planning strategies for complex development proposals.
• Managing and coordinating planning applications from initial feasibility through to submission and determination.
• Preparing and reviewing planning reports, statements and other technical documentation.
• Liaising confidently with local planning authorities, statutory consultees and other stakeholders.
• Coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams and ensuring projects remain on programme.
• Building and maintaining strong, trusted relationships with clients.
• Supporting business development and identifying opportunities to grow existing client relationships.
• Contributing to the wider development and success of the consultancy.
• Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team.

Requirements For The Role Of Senior Town Planner

• Relevant degree within Town Planning or another relevant discipline that is RTPI accredited
• RTPI chartership or working towards chartership
• Significant experience within a planning consultancy, developer, local authority or related environment
• Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and development management process
• Experience managing planning applications and projects from inception through to determination
• Experience working on complex or high:profile development schemes
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• The confidence to engage with clients, consultants, planning officers and other stakeholders at a senior level
• Strong project management and organisational skills
• A commercially minded approach and an understanding of the development process
• A genuine interest in placemaking and creating successful, sustainable places
• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment
