Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is working with a growing property consultancy to appoint a Senior Town Planner to join the Colchester team. You will lead planning projects from inception to delivery across residential, commercial and mixed-use developments in Essex and beyond.

A strong understanding of the UK planning system is essential. You will mentor junior staff, liaise with authorities and landowners, prepare applications and provide strategic advice.

Qualifications

• Degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• RTPI membership or working towards chartership.
• Several years' experience within a planning consultancy, property business or local authority environment.
• Strong knowledge of the English planning system.
• Experience managing planning applications and providing strategic planning advice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong commercial awareness and client-management ability.
• Proactive, ambitious and solutions-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied portfolio of planning projects across residential, commercial and mixed-use development.
• Provide professional planning advice to landowners, developers and property clients.

• Undertake planning appraisals and assess development opportunities.

The Role

As a Senior Town Planner, you will play a key role in managing planning projects from inception through to delivery, providing strategic planning advice to clients and supporting the wider consultancy team.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing a varied portfolio of planning projects across residential, commercial and mixed-use development.
• Providing professional planning advice to landowners, developers and property clients.
• Preparing and submitting planning applications and appeals.
• Undertaking planning appraisals and assessing development opportunities.
• Liaising with local planning authorities, consultants, clients and other stakeholders.
• Managing projects, programmes and budgets effectively.
• Attending meetings, site visits and planning committees where required.
• Supporting junior members of the team and contributing to their professional development.
• Identifying new opportunities and contributing to the continued growth of the planning team.

About You

We are looking for an experienced planner with a strong understanding of the UK planning system and a genuine interest in the property and development sector.

Ideally, you will have:

• A degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• RTPI membership or be working towards chartership.
• Several years' experience within a planning consultancy, property business or local authority environment.
