Job summary

WSP is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer in London to lead data centre electrical design within the Mission Critical Facilities team. You will develop conceptual designs across EHV to LV, advise clients, and coordinate with architects and structural engineers.

The role requires chartered status (or working towards it), strong regulatory knowledge, and proficiency with ETAP, Trimble, RevitMEP and AutoCAD. You will join a large London team delivering landmark projects.

Qualifications

  • Chartered status with CIBSE or IET, or working towards Chartered status.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK and EU regulations and design guides.
  • IT literate with experience in relevant software such as Trimble/Amtech.
  • Experience with ETAP for HV modelling (fault current, current flow, harmonics).
  • Understanding of Neher–McGrath method for cable temperatures and ampacity.
  • Familiarity with Uptime Institute, TIA942 and EN50600 tier classifications.
  • Ability to lead and mentor teams; collaborative cross-disciplinary work.
  • Experience with RevitMEP and AutoCAD for project coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual electrical distribution designs from EHV to LV for data centres.

WSP have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer, in our London office, focusing on the Data Centre sector with our Mission Critical Facilities team. You will have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting and technically challenges projects within this fast paced sector. WSP are currently involved in numerous projects, working with Colocation Providers, End Users and Enterprise clients, both within the UK and across EMEA.

A little more about your role…
  • Candidates will support the team in developing conceptual designs for electrical distribution systems from EHV, HV, MV to Low Voltage incorporating high voltage equipment, generation equipment, UPS plant, low voltage switchgear and power control and monitoring systems
  • Provide advice to clients regarding electrical systems/requirements available to meet their business needs.
  • Leading the design of data centre electrical systems and equipment
  • Provide written reports of system options in the form of design development notes.
  • Produce technical specifications for electrical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirements
  • Ensure coordination other disciplines including Architect and Structural engineers
  • Produce calculations, technical/equipment specification documentation for tender.
  • Monitor installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with employers’ requirements, design specifications and all relevant safety codes.
  • Be comfortable in a client facing role discussing technical subjects with the ability to discuss and agree client requirements.
  • Work independently and as part of the WSP global project team.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
  • Chartered status with CIBSE or IET (or working towards Chartered status) or equivalent experience
  • Technical knowledge of relevant UK & EU regulations, design guides, etc
  • IT literate with a technical understanding of relevant IT packages i.e. Trimble (formally Amtech)
  • An understanding of the ETAP software package for HV modelling (Fault current, current flow & harmonics)
  • An understanding of the Neher-McGrath method of calculating underground cable temperatures & ampacity
  • An understanding of the Tier classifications as defined by The Uptime institute, TIA942 and EN50600
  • Able to work as part of a team as well as ability to effectively lead, direct and mentor individuals
  • Have understanding of working with RevitMEP or other 3D design software to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Have working knowledge of AutoCAD to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
