Job description

Senior to Associate Electrical Engineer – Data Centre Sector

Location: Glasgow or Edinburgh. Focus: Mission Critical Facilities team.

Responsibilities
  • Support the team in developing conceptual designs for electrical distribution systems from EHV, HV, MV to Low Voltage incorporating high voltage equipment, generation equipment, UPS plant, low voltage switchgear and power control and monitoring systems.
  • Provide advice to clients regarding electrical systems and requirements to meet their business needs.
  • Lead the design of data centre electrical systems and equipment.
  • Produce written reports of system options in the form of design development notes.
  • Produce technical specifications for electrical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines including architects and structural engineers.
  • Produce calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation for tender.
  • Monitor installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with employer’s requirements, design specifications and all relevant safety codes.
  • Engage in client‑facing discussions of technical subjects and agree on client requirements.
  • Work independently and as part of the WSP global project team.
Qualifications
  • Chartered status with CIBSE or IET (or working towards Chartered status) or equivalent experience.
  • Technical knowledge of relevant UK & EU regulations, design guides, etc.
  • IT literate with technical understanding of relevant IT packages (e.g. Trimble).
  • Experience with the ETAP software package for HV modelling (fault current, current flow & harmonics).
  • Knowledge of the Neher‑McGrath method of calculating underground cable temperatures & ampacity.
  • Understanding of the Tier classifications as defined by The Uptime Institute, TIA942 and EN50600.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to effectively lead, direct and mentor individuals.
  • Experience with RevitMEP or other 3D design software to allocate and direct work on projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).
