Job summary

ALTEN, a global engineering and technology consultancy, is seeking a Senior Thermal Systems Design Engineer to join its aerospace-focused team in Bicester. You will lead the thermal design for electric propulsion products, including motors and EPUs, and work on sealed liquid cooling systems, CFD analyses, and validation against real-world conditions.

The role requires 5–15 years of experience, a degree in Engineering, and the ability to guide junior engineers while collaborating with suppliers

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
• Proven experience delivering thermal design solutions for advanced engineering products.
• Experience with design, analysis, testing and validation phases.

Responsibilities

• Own the thermal system design for electric propulsion products.
• Develop thermal management solutions for motors, power electronics, and EPUs.
• Analyse and optimise sealed liquid cooling systems and heat exchangers.
• Perform thermal and fluid flow simulations to support development.
• Validate results against real-world conditions and provide recommendations.
• Produce technical specifications and documentation throughout the lifecycle.
