Job summary

Leonardo UK Ltd in Luton seeks a Senior Thermal Engineer to shape defence technology for EW systems. You will work in a hybrid model, guiding thermal performance across design, testing and certification stages, ensuring integrity and reliability in extreme environments.

You will analyze, advise on cooling, and drive innovative thermal solutions across multiple programmes with cross‑site collaboration and occasional travel. A strong background in CFD and regulatory standards is essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering with post‑graduate experience in Thermal engineering.
• Proven expertise in thermal analysis, with a track record of developing equipment for challenging environments.
• Proficiency in CFD tools, notably Ansys Icepak and Ansys Fluent.
• Good understanding of environmental testing and relevant standards (Mil‑Std‑810, RTCA DO‑160).
• Knowledge of regulatory standards (Def Stan 00‑970, HSE, Pressure Equipment).
• Aware of safety compliance, inspections, and fault/failure reports.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thermal analysis of mechanical designs using CFD, hand calculations and software.
• Advise on cooling strategies and thermal design improvements.
• Advise on materials and manufacturing methods for thermal performance and integrity.
• Define thermal requirements and verification methods across Leonardo products.
• Drive innovation in thermal design and new techniques.
• Support product development through design, testing and certification phases.
• Deliver timely thermal solutions within budget and performance targets.
• Contribute to technical documentation for peer reviews and stage gates.
• Collaborate across sites, suppliers and customers with occasional travel.
