Job summary

Leonardo UK is seeking an experienced Thermal Engineer to drive thermal analysis for defence products across Land, Naval, Seeker and Space domains. You will conduct thermal analysis, advise on cooling strategies, define requirements, and support development through certification, collaborating with multi-discipline teams and customers in the UK.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.
• Post-graduate experience in Thermal engineering with a track record in extreme environments.
• Proficiency in CFD tools (Ansys Icepak/Fluent) and classical hand calculations.
• Experience with environmental test methods and design verification.
• Familiarity with regulatory standards (Def Stan 00-970, HSE, pressure regs).
• Strong verbal and written communication with ability to influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thermal analysis of mechanical designs using CFD tools, hand calculations and CFD techniques.
• Provide guidance on cooling strategies and thermal design improvements.
• Advise on materials and manufacturing techniques for thermal performance and integrity.
• Define thermal requirements and verify compliance across products.
• Drive innovation in thermal design and introduce new technologies.
• Support product development from design to certification and delivery on time and budget.
• Contribute to technical documentation for peer reviews and stage/gate approvals.
• Collaborate with multi-discipline teams and customers across the UK.
