United Kingdom (Remote)

Senior Technical Writer

About Grafana Labs:

There are more than 700,000 active installations of Grafana around the globe, monitoring everything from beehives to climate change in the Alps. The instantly recognizable dashboards have been spotted everywhere from a SpaceX launch and Minecraft HQ to Wimbledon and the Tour de France. Grafana Labs also helps companies including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay manage their observability strategies with full-stack offerings that can be run fully managed with Grafana Cloud, or self-managed with Grafana Enterprise Stack. The Grafana stack has grown to include more open-source projects, including Grafana Loki (for logs), Grafana Tempo (for traces), and Grafana Mimir (for metrics).

Description of Duties

We are looking for a Technical Writer to produce high-quality documentation and guides for Grafana Labs. You will collaborate with engineers, developer advocates, support engineers, product managers, and the Grafana technical writing team to produce a variety of tailored content to ensure our products are easy to learn and rapidly adopted.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work closely with other technical writers, product managers, and internal stakeholders to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements.
  2. Plan, research, develop, and write high-quality content tailored to Grafana customers.
  3. Interview developers and engineers to gain knowledge and understanding of the software you write about and the larger systems and context in which it is useful.
  4. Write content for beginning users, such as examples and getting started guides.
  5. Work with documentation managers, developer advocates, and other technical writers to continuously improve the existing documentation and docs site; to produce content with a consistent voice, feel, and organization; and to make it as easy as possible for users to quickly find the information they need.
Requirements

What experience would make someone be successful in this role?

  1. Experience using or documenting enterprise and/or cloud software for a developer audience.
  2. Experience working with Git and Github.
  3. Experience working remotely.
  4. Experience with software testing services and tools.
  5. Experience working in a docs-as-code environment.

Experience with observability solutions or working with open source communities is a plus.

What you’ll bring to the role

You’re an enthusiast for technically accurate content, you’re unafraid of managing multiple projects, and you enjoy working both collaboratively and independently. You have a well-used copy of “The Elements of Style”.

Compensation and Benefits

In the UK, the Base compensation range for this role is £70,075 - £84,090. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed in the interview process. Benefits include equity, bonus (if applicable), and other listed benefits.

Additional Information

Grafana Labs has over 20 million users worldwide, monitoring everything from beehives to climate change. Our dashboards are everywhere from NASA launches to Minecraft HQ, Wimbledon, and Tour de France. We serve more than 3,000 companies including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay, with scalable metrics (Grafana Mimir), logs (Grafana Loki), and traces (Grafana Tempo).

We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. If your experience doesn’t match every qualification, we encourage you to apply anyway. We promote, recruit, and train regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, disability, age, veteran status, or other characteristics.
