Job summary

Voltility is hiring a Senior Technical Engineer to own the data collection platform end-to-end, focused on data engineering and hands-on full-stack work. You will design pipelines that ingest from public and licensed sources and use AI and rules-based extraction to produce structured records at scale.

You will own architecture, improve data quality, and mentor junior engineers as the platform grows, while collaborating with product teams to deliver client-facing data products.

Qualifications

  • Production experience with Python and SQL across the stack (data pipelines, APIs, cloud infra).
  • Hands-on web scraping and data extraction skills valued.
  • Experience building data products/pipelines with strong data quality.
  • Ability to translate non-technical specs into build plans and explain trade-offs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and run the collection platform and architecture: ingestion, extraction, matching, QA flags and storage into the product database
  • Work with research leadership to prioritise data points to automate, set quality thresholds, measure coverage and freshness
  • Apply mainly LLM-based extraction, scraping and APIs with verification to ensure trustworthy output
  • Build tools for researchers to review, correct and approve machine-collected data and iterate from feedback
  • Develop tooling to help squads find and track proprietary collection targets (change detection, alerts, entity matching)
  • Own reliability, monitoring and cost of pipelines; fix issues as they arise
  • Maintain clean, documented code and data models for others to work on
  • Mentor junior engineers and set work priorities
  • Collaborate with product engineering to ensure data flows into client-facing platform

Job description

Company overview

Voltility is a market intelligence platform for the people building, powering and financing the energy transition and data centre power markets. We track battery storage and hybrid power projects across the US and Europe, and in 2026 launched data-centre power coverage.

Following new investment we're growing the team quickly, so this is a chance to join early and help shape the business at an exciting time.

Role overview

The Senior Technical Engineer builds the platform that powers Voltility's data. This is a hands-on, senior full-stack role with a focus on data engineering, and you'll own the collection platform end to end.

You'll build pipelines that pull from public and licensed sources and use AI and rules-based extraction to turn them into structured, trusted records at scale. Every hour your tooling saves goes into proprietary intelligence, so your work directly shapes what makes Voltility different. You'll have real ownership of the architecture as the platform grows, and help develop junior engineers along the way.

Key responsibilities
  • Design, build and run the collection platform and architecture: ingestion, extraction, matching, QA flags and storage into the product database
  • Work with research leadership to prioritise which data points to automate, agree quality thresholds and measure coverage, accuracy and freshness
  • Apply predominantly LLM-based extraction, scraping and APIs appropriately, with verification steps so output can be trusted or clearly flagged
  • Build the tooling researchers use to review, correct and approve machine-collected data, and iterate on it from their feedback
  • Build the tooling that helps squads find and track proprietary collection targets (change detection, alerts, entity matching)
  • Own reliability, monitoring and cost of the pipelines, and fix what breaks
  • Maintain clean, documented code and data models that others can work on
  • Mentor and set work for junior engineers
  • Work with product engineering so collected data flows cleanly into the client-facing platform
Suggested experience
  • Very strong developer with production experience in Python and SQL, comfortable across the stack (data pipelines, APIs, cloud infrastructure, light front-end tooling)
  • Hands-on experience with web scraping, document and PDF extraction and LLM-based structuring of unstructured text, including the failure modes
  • Experience building data products or pipelines where data quality was measured and mattered
  • Able to turn a non-technical specification into a build plan and explain trade-offs in plain English
  • Experience mentoring junior developers; interest in energy or a comparable document-heavy domain
  • Adept with agentic coding harnesses Codex or Claude Code (or equivalent) - demonstrable knowledge on what it takes to build solutions rapidly & precisely using these toolkits
