Job summary

Voltility in the United Kingdom is seeking a Junior Engineer to help build the tooling that collects, structures and checks its data. This is a hands-on developer role, working with a senior engineer on an AI-led data stack, with fast progression, real responsibility and room to experiment with new extraction approaches.

• Strong Python and SQL skills with experience building data pipelines.
• Experience developing or integrating with APIs is a bonus.
• Experience with web scraping tools & approaches.
• Curious, quick learner, and able to work with code reviews.
• Hands-on experience with transformer-based AI tooling.
• Experience extracting structured data from unstructured documents.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain collectors and parsers for public sources to specification.
• Write tests, monitoring and documentation for the pipelines you work on.
• Investigate and fix pipeline failures and data errors reported by the research team.
• Help build and improve the review tooling researchers use to check machine-collected data.
• Experiment with AI and LLM-based extraction on new source types and report what works and what does not.
• Learn & develop the data model, taxonomy and the power and data centre markets the data describes.

Role overview

The Junior Engineer helps build the tooling that collects, structures and checks Voltility's data. This is a hands-on developer role for someone hungry to learn, working alongside a senior engineer on an AI-led data stack.

You'll own well-scoped pieces of the pipeline from day one, learn the data and the energy markets behind it, and take on more as you grow. Expect fast progression, real responsibility and room to experiment with new AI extraction approaches.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain individual collectors and parsers for public sources to specification
• Write and maintain tests, monitoring and documentation for the pipelines you work on
• Investigate and fix pipeline failures and data errors reported by the research team
• Help build and improve the review tooling researchers use to check machine-collected data
• Experiment with AI and LLM-based extraction on new source types and report what works and what does not
• Learn & develop the data model, taxonomy and the power and data centre markets the data describes

Suggested experience

• Early-career developer with solid Python and SQL skills plus proven time authoring & maintaining data pipelines
• Experience developing or integrating with APIs both is a bonus
• Experience with web scraping tools and approaches, from work, study or personal projects
• Curious and quick to learn, comfortable asking questions and taking feedback from code review
• Hands on experience using transformer based AI tooling including: agentic coding harnesses, small language models, vision models
• Demonstrable experience in synthesizing structured data from unstructured documents, understanding the various steps that you'd need to go through to robustly scrape & format data for loading into a relational database
• Interest in energy or infrastructure markets is a plus, not a requirement
