Job summary

ePropelled, Coventry, UK, is seeking a Senior Technical Buyer to lead procurement for new motor and controller projects from prototype sourcing through to volume production. The role supports engineering, manufacturing, quality and programme teams with a hands-on, independent approach.

You will develop supply solutions that meet cost, delivery and quality requirements, manage supplier relationships, and drive continuous improvement across the supply base in a fast-growing SME

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience as Technical Buyer.
• Proven procurement experience in engineering/manufacturing including NPI.
• Knowledge of mechanical parts, fabrication and raw materials.
• Ability to interpret drawings, BOMs and specifications.
• Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
• ERP/MRP experience and data accuracy.
• Experience in startup/SME or aerospace/UAV sectors preferred.
• Shipping and logistics knowledge advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead procurement for new motor and controller projects, coordinating sourcing plans and prototype requirements for transfer to volume production.
• Select suppliers from approved base, identify capability gaps, and assess new sources with cross-functional teams.
• Manage RFQs, compare quotations and negotiate pricing, lead times and terms.
• Raise and manage purchase orders, secure delivery commitments and expedite materials.
• Identify supply risks early and propose recovery options with stakeholders.
• Ensure drawings, BOMs and specifications are correct; coordinate engineering changes with Engineering and Quality.
• Build supplier relationships, monitor delivery performance and drive cost-reduction activities.
• Maintain ERP purchasing data and support wider supply chain activities.

ePropelled designs and manufactures electric propulsionsystems for UAVs and other next-generation platforms, with teams in the UK, USand India. Driven by growing demand and supported by funding initiativesincluding $60 million from the US government, we are expanding our supply chainteam to support our motor and electronic controller programmes.

About the Role

You will be the main procurement contact for UK new productintroduction (NPI), from prototype sourcing through to readiness for volumeproduction, while supporting day-to-day production purchasing. Working withEngineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Programme teams, you will develop andexecute supply solutions that meet cost, delivery and quality requirements.

This is a hands-on role with significant ownership, suitedto someone who can work independently, resolve problems and bring structure toa rapidly growing business.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadprocurement for new motor and controller projects, coordinating sourcingplans, prototype requirements and supplier readiness for transfer intovolume production.
  
• Selectsuppliers from the approved supply base, identify capability or capacitygaps, and work with Engineering, Quality and the wider procurement team toassess new sources where needed.
  
• ManageRFQs, compare quotations and negotiate pricing, lead times and commercialterms to achieve value and continuity of supply.
  
• Raiseand manage purchase orders, secure delivery commitments and expeditematerials against development and production schedules.
  
• Identifysupply risks early, develop recovery options and communicate actions anddecisions needed to the Programme team and relevant stakeholders.
  
• Ensurepurchase requirements reflect the correct drawings, bills of materials andspecifications, coordinate engineering changes, deviations and supplierissues with Engineering and Quality.
  
• Buildsupplier relationships, monitor delivery performance and drive improvementand cost-reduction activities.
  
• Maintainaccurate ERP purchasing data and improve procurement workflows, supportgoods receipt, shipments and wider supply chain activities when required.
  

Requirements

Skills & Experience

• Looking for 5+ years experience as Technical Buyer
• Proventechnical purchasing experience in engineering or manufacturing, includingresponsibility for NPI or new product development procurement.
  
• Knowledgeof mechanical commodities such as machined parts, fabrication and rawmaterials. Experience sourcing PCBAs, PCBs and electronic components isstrongly preferred.
  
• Abilityto interpret technical drawings, bills of materials and specifications,and work with engineers and suppliers to resolve technical queries.
  
• Strongnegotiation and supplier management skills, with sound commercialjudgement on cost, lead time and longer-term supply risk.
  
• Abilityto manage competing project deadlines independently, follow actionsthrough to completion and escalate issues with clear recommendations.
  
• Confidentcommunication and influencing skills across suppliers and internal teams,including the ability to challenge assumptions constructively.
  
• PracticalERP/MRP experience and a disciplined approach to purchasing records, dataaccuracy and process improvement.
  
• Understandingof manufacturing quality systems and supplier quality processes, such asfirst article inspection, non-conformance management and deviations.
  
• Experiencein a startup or growing SME, aerospace/UAVs or complex electromechanicalproducts, together with basic shipping and logistics knowledge, would beadvantageous.
