An exciting opportunity for a Senior Technical Application Specialist to join our Markets Platform. You’ll be an experienced specialist capable of handling complex projects and mentoring junior team members.
Our platform covers the entire end to end customer journey of traded products for the Ring Fenced and Non-Ring-fenced Bank. The team has development responsibility for approximately 5 applications covering high rated critical business processes crucial to the successful trade settlement flow for the Markets business. This is a key function of the lab.
This will require an understanding and adherence to governance controls, planning of activities, communication and engagement across the business teams and lab constructs, and you'll be responsible for ensuring the correct processes are followed to ensure delivered products meet the quality and standards that our customers expect.
What you’ll do
Markets platform provides end to end management and development of Financial Markets, Capital Markets and Trade services across digital and relationship channels.
As a Technical Application Specialist/Software Engineer within Trade Execution Lab, you will be working in the Agile framework to deliver business value by developing reliable, scalable software while being responsible for the full application lifecycle, including design, build, testing and deployment.
Some of the responsibilities in this role include:
Close liaison with vendor for patching, SME support, upstream/downstream testing
Working with the team to define, agree and implement optimal software engineering approaches; utilising the right tools and techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes for the business.
Defines, delivers, and adapts specialised products/services to meet customer needs by selecting the best possible approaches available within established systems.
Delivers prescribed outcomes for a designated area, using risk management systems to ensure theorganisation is not exposed to undue risks.
Mentoring junior Engineers, to continually promote best practices and culture of excellence.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies and methodologies
Conduct root cause analysis for critical issues
Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and pilot projects
Represent the specialist team in inter-departmental meetings
Contribute to the development of technical strategies
What you’ll need:
Ideally, you’ll have some experience of developing electronic payments systems, preferably with exposure to Finastra’s Fusion Payments Manager (PCM) or similar Swift/electronic payment applications
An understanding of Swift/CHAPS/ISO20022/other payments mechanisms & messaging formats (or similar financial transaction messaging/processing)
Knowledge of underlying technologies, preferably across these areas (training will be provided where required):
- Java (preferably Java 8 and/or 11) or similar
- SQL (Transact-SQL) or similar
- Microsoft SQL Server (preferably 2019/2022 or similar)
- Scripting (Windows and/or PowerShell or others)
- Source code control (preferably Git and GitHub or similar)
Ability to communicate technical problems, solutions, concepts and activities clearly at an individual, team and Lab level
It would be great if you also had
Exposure to monitoring tools and dashboards for automated monitoring.
Experience in Finance/Banking domain
Exposure to build/test/deploy, CI/CD and other development toolsets and methodologies.
