Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

Senior/Team Lead/Electronics Field Engineer

Join to apply for the Senior/Team Lead/Electronics Field Engineer role at Watson Communications.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Ensure the continuous functionality of all navigation systems sensors, including radar transceivers, antennas, gearboxes, radios, AIS base stations, microwave links, CCTV, warning lights, tide gauges, and meteorological sensors, to enable safe port operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults across the full range of sensors professionally and promptly.
  • Log actions, investigate root causes, capture future requirements, and keep stakeholders updated.
  • Install, monitor, and maintain navigation system sensors.
  • Research, specify, and assist with procurement of replacement equipment and new systems.
  • Create and update safety documentation such as risk assessments and method statements.
  • Act as team leader, supervise contractors, and ensure compliance with HSE regulations during on-site work.
  • Support GDPR and cybersecurity compliance in line with the NIS directive.
  • Undertake ongoing training to maintain expertise in sensors and navigation systems.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Degree in electronic engineering or related field, plus at least 5 years' relevant experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of H&S regulations (e.g., PUWER, LOLER, Working at Height, COSHH).
  • Understanding of risks and mitigations related to the work environment.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, minimum Cyber Essentials.
  • Full driving license.
Skills Required
  • Deep knowledge of electrical, electronic, computer-based systems, telecommunications, RADAR, radio, and microwave engineering.
  • IT and IP networking skills for configuring and maintaining sensor systems.
  • Ability to pass medical evaluation and maintain safety fitness.
  • Logical diagnostic skills and safety consciousness.
  • Assertiveness and supervisory skills.
  • Flexibility, including out-of-hours work and on-call duties.
