Job summary

JGA Recruitment Group Ltd is seeking a Senior Tax Associate to join its Private Client Tax team in Belfast. You will manage personal tax compliance for a varied client portfolio and support senior colleagues on advisory matters.

The role focuses on preparing tax returns, liaising with HMRC, and staying up to date with UK tax legislation. A solid background in Personal/Private Client tax and ATT/CTA or equivalent will help you excel.

Qualifications

• Previous Personal Tax / Private Client Tax experience within an accountancy practice is essential.
• Experience preparing personal tax returns and computations.
• Good understanding of UK personal taxation and HMRC requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare personal and private client tax returns accurately and within deadlines.
• Complete tax computations covering employment, investment and other sources of income.
• Gather and review financial information required for client tax returns.
• Liaise directly with clients regarding information requests and tax queries.
• Assist with technical research across areas such as allowable expenses, capital allowances and rental income.
• Deal with HMRC regarding routine queries, repayments and client tax matters.
• Identify potential tax issues or risks and escalation more complex matters where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate client records and ensure work meets compliance standards.
• Support junior colleagues through knowledge sharing and coaching.
• Keep up to date with changes to UK personal tax legislation.

Senior Tax Associate

Salary: £37,500-£42,500

Location: Belfast

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity for a Personal Tax professional to join an established Private Client Tax team, taking responsibility for personal tax compliance while developing broader technical and advisory experience.

You'll work with a varied portfolio of private clients, preparing tax returns, dealing with HMRC and supporting senior colleagues with more complex tax matters.

Key Responsibilities

Ideal Candidate

• Previous Personal Tax / Private Client Tax experience within an accountancy practice is essential.
• Experience preparing personal tax returns and computations.
• Good understanding of UK personal taxation and HMRC requirements.
• Comfortable managing client queries and liaising directly with HMRC.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Confident using tax/accountancy systems and Microsoft Office.
• Studying towards or already holding ATT, CTA, ACA, ACCA, CA or similar would be advantageous.
• Candidates who are qualified by experience will also be considered.
