Salary: £56,000 - £70,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. Plus London Weighting Allowance of £5,319 and 15% bonus. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Location: Office Base is London (This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working)

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Regulatory Affairs team at BBC Studios manages the global Ethics and Compliance programme, focusing on legal, regulatory, and policy risks. They provide expert advice on compliance with standards including the BBC Code of Conduct, Editorial Standards, Privacy, Ethical Trading/Modern Slavery, Sustainability, Financial Controls, and competition matters, in line with the BBC's Charter & Agreement.

THE ROLE

We are hiring a Senior Sustainability Manager to foster sustainability change across BBC Studios and its subsidiaries, driving the delivery of the BBC's sustainability strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing sustainability and environmental controls and initiatives to meet BBC sustainability targets, including guidance on reducing carbon emissions.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Group Sustainability Strategy in collaboration with the BBC Sustainability Team.
  • Providing expertise and guidance to stakeholders on reducing environmental impacts.
  • Supporting reporting on sustainability developments and compliance risks to senior management and the board.
  • Line management of the sustainability apprentice.
  • Monitoring sustainability obligations and producing assurance reports.
  • Building relationships with stakeholders to promote sustainability efforts.
  • Developing training materials and communication plans to raise awareness and promote sustainable practices.
  • Supporting compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to sustainability and environment.
  • Standardizing sustainability provisions in legal agreements and updating due diligence questionnaires.
  • Staying informed of industry trends and best practices and incorporating them into strategies.
  • Collaborating with industry partners to share best practices and lead industry-wide change.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE?

Key criteria:

  • Substantial experience in sustainability at strategic and operational levels.
  • Proven success in implementing and monitoring sustainability initiatives.
  • Experience working across multiple business areas to drive change.
  • Understanding of greenhouse gas inventories and calculation methods.
  • Familiarity with trends like TCFD, Net Zero, Energy and Waste, CSRD, CSDDD.
  • Proven engagement and change management skills.
  • Strategic thinking and experience in developing and implementing sustainability strategies in large companies.
  • Ability to prepare reports and convey complex sustainability information simply.

Desirable criteria:

  • Master's degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Previous experience in broadcasting/media roles.
