Job summary

Hertfordshire County Council is seeking a Senior Support Worker for St Michael’s House, Welwyn Garden City. You will lead shifts, administer medication and develop detailed support plans to ensure safe, person-centred care.

Work with a multidisciplinary team to support adults with disabilities, guide junior staff, and participate in planning meetings. This permanent, full-time role offers progression and development opportunities, with a 37-hour week and weekend duties.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Support Worker supporting adults with disabilities.
  • Hold an RQF Level 2 Award or equivalent; willing to undertake an RQF Level 3 Award.
  • UK right to work; no sponsorship offered for this role.

Job Introduction

Job Title: Senior Support Worker

Starting Salary: £31,537 progressing to £34,434 per annum plus 6% MUSHA payment for weekend working.

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire

About The Team

St Michael’s House is a 12 bedded short break service for adults with disabilities. They come to St Michael’s for various reasons including, giving their main carers a break, when there’s been a breakdown in support or emergency referrals from hospital and rehab units.

Therefore, you will need to work in partnership with a range of professionals; – social workers, including hospital social workers, GPs, health support services such as physios, speech and language, district nurses etc, as well as with the people we support, their families and carers.

You will need to be an excellent communicator, with good interpersonal skills.

No two days are the same here, so you must be able to problem solve and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  • St Michaels House - Welwyn Garden City - 37 hours per week
Shift pattern

4 WEEK REPEATING ROTA WITH A MIXTURE OF EARLY SHIFTS, LATE SHIFTS and SLEEP-INS.

1 Weekend in 2. Early shifts start at 7.30am and finish at 3pm, late shifts start at 2.30pm and finish at 10pm.

About The Role

People who utilise our service may have a learning / physical disability and may need differing levels of support. Due to the complex nature of some of the adults referred to us we will endeavour to get staff training on specific conditions.

As a part of your day- to-day duties, you will be required to:

  • Run and lead a shift
  • Administer medication
  • Shifts working with the people we support directly
  • Create and implement support plans, risk assessments, MCA/BI/DoLs forms
  • Liaising with other professionals and family members
  • Support and guide junior staff
  • Supervise staff
  • Hold planning meetings to assess whether we can meet someone’s needs safely who has been referred to us.
  • Take on an additional area of responsibility such as coordination of training or health and safety.
  • Our service requires you to support people with intimate personal care, this may involve using moving and handling equipment and, in those services, you would need to be physically able to manage this type of work.
  • Attend staff meetings

About You

Essential: You need to have some experience asa Support Worker supporting adults with disabilities for this roleand to hold an RQF Level 2 award or equivalent. If successful you must bewilling to undertake an RQF level 3 award – we will support you withall the additional training you need.
