Job summary

Buro Happold is seeking a leader in Structural Fire Engineering to drive market awareness, lead complex projects, and mentor a growing team from our Edinburgh office. The role focuses on delivering safe, innovative fire protection strategies for landmark structures while expanding client relationships and service propositions.

The ideal candidate will bring a Masters in structural/fire engineering, chartered status or near, and proven leadership in consultancy projects, with strong communication

Qualifications

• Masters degree or higher in Structural Engineering or Structural Fire Engineering.
• Chartered engineer or nearing chartered status.
• Experience leading structural fire engineering teams in a consultancy.
• Experience managing structural fire engineering projects.
• Experience designing and assessing structures at ambient and fire temperatures.
• Experience in fire and heat transfer assessments with structural FEM modelling.
• Experience using SAFIR, VULCAN or similar.
• Experience writing and reviewing performance-based engineering reports.
• Excellent consultancy and communication skills; ability to handle complex negotiations.
• Confident, proactive; capable of leading in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Drive market awareness, sales pipeline and business development for Structural Fire Engineering.
• Lead project delivery for complex engagements with client satisfaction and ongoing relationships.
• Inspire and develop team members, promoting growth and inclusive work environment.
• Contribute to UK Fire Engineering senior leadership across strategy, service, propositions and people.
• Own Technical competence and capability development for the Structural Fire Engineering team.
• Collaborate with structural engineers on buildings to ensure life safety and optimized protection.
• Inform and support design aspirations, functionality and architectural form.
• Represent Buro Happold at design team meetings, internally and externally.
