Job summary

HOP Consulting Limited in the Brighton area is seeking a Structural Engineer to join a dynamic design environment, contributing to projects across residential, commercial and marine sectors.

You will develop detailed designs, prepare calculations and liaise with other professionals, with opportunities to coach junior staff and progress toward Chartership in a supportive, ISO-led practice offering hybrid working and a strong training ethos.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (BEng/MEng) or equivalent.
• Experience of Structural Design in RC, steel, timber and masonry.
• Detailed experience using Eurocodes.
• Experience in multi-disciplinary design environments.
• Proficient with Tekla, CAD/Revit or similar software.
• Strong technical design knowledge to British/European/international standards.
• Good analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
• Autonomous and capable of meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed designs and calculations for major materials.
• Contribute to scheme design and construction documents.
• Coordinate with other professionals to progress designs through stages.
• Coach Degree Apprentices/Technicians/Graduates to support development.

You will be responsible for:

• Developing detailed designs, preparing calculations in all major materials
• Scheme designing to aid design development establishing stability, structural solution and basic grid/construction layouts in sketch format
• Liaising with other professionals, to resolve detailed information and develop design through scheme stages through to construction
• Coaching others including our Degree Apprentices/Technicians & Graduates to assist their development
• Working with autonomy to complete assigned project work

Person Specification:

Experience & Qualifications:

• BEng/MEng Civil/Structural Engineering degree level or equivalent
• Experience of Structural Design in Reinforced Concrete, Steel Timber and Masonry
• Detailed experience using Eurocodes
• Experience of working in or with a multi-disciplinary design consultancy
• Competent use of design software including Tekla, Tedd’s, CAD/Revit
• Good all-round technical design expertise using British, European and international standards.
• Good understanding of structural theory and strong analytical skills, with proven problem-solving ability.
• Practical approach to design
• Enthusiasm, ambition and ownership over professional development
• FEM Analysis & analysis modelling
• Detailed understanding and use of Analytical/Design and CAD software
• Capability to work to deadlines and work autonomously when required
