Job summary

Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team in Brackley is seeking a highly motivated engineer to join the Structural Analysis group within the Applied Science department. You will lead advanced structural analyses, collaborate with fellow engineers, and push design boundaries with innovative solutions.

The role requires a mechanical engineering degree (2:1 minimum) and strong FEA knowledge, including fatigue and non-linear material behaviour. Catia 3DX and FEA Hyperworks experience highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Requires mechanical engineering degree (2:1 minimum grade) with strong automotive/motorsport background.
  • Thorough understanding of FEA methods essential.
  • Core knowledge in fatigue, non-linear material behaviour and contact analysis.
  • Ability to perform hand calculations; Excel/VB or Python advantageous.
  • High interest in advancing within a dynamic digital environment.

Responsibilities

  • Structural analysis of highly complex components and assemblies to high standards.
  • Collaborate with Applied Science team to optimise designs for performance and reliability.
  • Continuously improve simulation and analysis methodologies and processes.
  • Specify and document test requests and stress reports.

The Role
Brackley, UK

A new position has become available for a highly motivated and creative individual to join the Structural Analysis group within the Applied Science department of the Mercedes AMG F1 team.

This role will require an inherent aptitude in developing innovative solutions and in actively supporting future design ideas. With a strong technical background in mechanical systems and structural analysis fields, the candidate will need to demonstrate their ability to work pro-actively and in a respectful manner within a group of highly skilled engineers. In addition of being passionate about advanced mechanic and technology, the candidate will have to possess a natural aptitude to lead projects, to push technical boundaries and to work outside of their comfort zone.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Structural Analysis, your responsibilities will include:

  • Structural analysis of highly complex components and assemblies to the highest standards

  • Close collaboration with the rest of the Applied Science engineering team to ensure fully optimised designs achieving optimal performance and reliability

  • Continuous improvement of simulation and analysis methodologies and processes

  • Specification and documentation of test requests and stress reports

About You

As well as being a passionate, hardworking team player, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • Mechanical engineering degree (2:1 minimum grade) or similar qualification with a good level of experience in automotive, top level motorsport category or an equivalent high level engineering industry

  • Thorough understanding of FEA methods is essential

  • Core knowledge in fatigue, non-linear material behaviour and contact analysis is essential

  • Ability to perform hand calculation is required and proficiency in Excel/VB or Python would be an advantage

  • High interest in making the best from the fast development within the very dynamic digital world is desirable

  • Experience of Catia 3DX design and FEA Hyperworks packages

  • Ambitious and talented engineer with a desire to advance their personal development

  • Excellent communicative and collaborative skills are essential
