Job summary

Bazaarvoice is seeking a Lead Engineer to design and deliver distributed, fault-tolerant reporting and analytics applications for our clients. You will mentor teams, drive engineering best practices, and help scale reporting to support thousands of weekly reports.

The role requires 7+ years in distributed systems, strong OO languages, Agile leadership, and cloud experience (AWS). You will collaborate across product, data, and engineering to deliver high-value insights.

Qualifications

• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent (education or work based).
• 7+ years of experience building and supporting scalable, distributed systems using open-source tools.
• Hands-on experience with object-oriented programming languages (e.g., Java/C++) and at least one scripting language (Python/Ruby).
• Experience with Agile methodologies and leadership/mentorship.
• Experience with writing complex SQL queries (PostgreSQL a plus).
• Experience with API frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot).
• Experience with public cloud hosting providers (AWS preferred).
• Experience with build tools such as Maven, Jenkins, GitHub.
• Experience with AWS services like CloudFormation, EMR, S3, EC2, CloudTrail.
• Experience with data visualization/analytics tools (D3.js, Tableau, Looker).
• Strong analytical, technical, and communication skills.
• Commitment to excellence and cross-team collaboration.

As the Lead Engineer of Portal Reports and Insights application team, your primary responsibilities will include designing and implementing distributed, fault-tolerant systems and creating high performance Reporting and Insights applications for Bazaarvoice clients that can run nearly 10k reports every week.

These reports and insights are used to produce various metrics about Bazaarvoice products and programs so that their performance can be measured. Reports can also be used to simply export raw data about client's UGC like questions, answers, reviews and products, while Insights provides analytical dashboards and data visualizations to help clients understand trends and patterns in their data. Staff Engineers at Bazaarvoice lead software initiatives from conception to delivery, while driving engineering best practices and helping mentor talent.

Who you are:

• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent (education or work based)
• 7+ years of experience building and supporting scalable, distributed systems using open-source tools
• Proven hands‑on experience with Object Oriented programming languages and with at least 1 scripting language (ex. Java/C++/etc. and Python/Ruby/etc.)
• Prior technical leadership and/or mentorship experience
• Experience with Agile methodologies
• Experience with writing complex SQL queries (any dialect but PostgreSQL is a plus)
• Experience with some sort of API framework (ex. Spring Boot)
• Experience with public cloud hosting provider (AWS (preferred), Google Cloud, Azure or similar)
• Experience using modern build tools such as Maven, Jenkins, GitHub, etc.
• Experience with Amazon Web Services a strong plus - CloudFormation, EMR, S3, EC2, Cloud Trail, etc.
• Experience with data visualization and analytics tools/frameworks (e.g., D3.js, Tableau, Looker, or similar) is a plus
• Strong analytical, technical, and communication (oral and written) skills
