Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join the Theatres and Anaesthesia division as part of our team of pre-assessment nurses. This role will require focused assessment and patient communication skills, as well as the ability to work with a broad range of healthcare professionals to ensure patients are optimised prior to their surgical procedure.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Protecting and supporting the health of individual patients and clients
  2. Assessment of care and health education needs
  3. Development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient

There is also an expectation for the successful candidate to demonstrate leadership and management skills in taking charge of the ward/department in the absence of the person holding continuous responsibility and in acting as a facilitator/mentor preceptor to all learners.

Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the register
  • Teaching course
  • In possession of BSc or working towards
Experience
  • Relevant experience at Band 5
  • Previous experience in pre-assessment
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates awareness of research and evidence-based practice
  • Demonstrates understanding of principles of Clinical Governance
  • Prioritises own workload
  • Acts on own initiative and problem-solves utilising resources available
