Job description

The post holder will provide direct care in addition to coordinating and supervising care delivery of junior team members by providing effective leadership and senior decision making in all aspects of the Shift Lead role within the Neonatal Wards. The post holder will also offer
support for children and young people and their parents/carers, working both directly with patients/families and supporting, directing and educating other members of the wider multidisciplinary team.
An exciting opportunity has arisen on NICU at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby for a Band 6 Neonatal Nurse.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day running and safety of the ward, working closely alongside the ward manager and deputy. This will include allocation of nursing staff to care for the babies on the ward, acting as a role model for junior colleagues, being a resource for other staff and creating a ward environment of open and honest communication, where we display kindness and respect to one another. You will be responsible for the daily safety checks and for the initial escalation of safety concerns; staff shortfall, increasing dependency and acuity demands.
You will need expert knowledge and competence assessing and caring for babies with both chronic and acute illness and babies admitted to the ward for special care and intensive care. You will also need to support staff on the transitional care ward. You will be competent in caring for a critically ill baby and have knowledge of children's safeguarding. Excellent communication skills with parents, babies families and colleagues are essential.
This will be a rotational contract to cover days, nights, weekends and bank holidays on a temporary basis.
