Job Overview

We have a 13.5-hour, Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse vacancy at Islington Integrated Sexual Health Service, Archway Centre. This is an opportunity for an existing Band 6 at the Archway Centre to extend their part-time hours.

The post-holder will be responsible for delivering high-standard sexual and reproductive health care, including nurse-led clinics for Sexual Health and contraception. They will take charge of clinic shifts on a rota basis, support healthcare support workers and medical staff, and facilitate learning for nurses and other health professionals.

Main duties of the job

• Hold a part-time Band 6 position at Archway Centre.
• Have a contraception qualification.
• Be flexible and proactive in nursing roles.
• Work with male, female, and young patients, understanding their sexual health needs.
• Work independently and within a team.
• Possess a mentorship or assessor qualification.
• Experience working with PGDs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Availability for early and late shifts as part of the clinic rota.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

• Maintain high standards of nursing care, testing, treatment, and management of STIs, HIV, and BBVs.
• Inform, advise, teach, and counsel clients on contraception methods, including sub-dermal implant procedures.
• Obtain relevant histories and examine patients.
• Manage symptomatic and asymptomatic cases, including discharge, genital ulcers, and warts.
• Initiate Cryotherapy as per protocol.
• Recognize signs needing medical review and refer appropriately.
• Administer treatments within PGDs and arrange prescriptions for others.
• Perform microscopy and partner notification processes.
• Promote sexual health and maintain accurate clinical notes.
• Follow clinic protocols and liaise with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
• Assist in outreach clinics and support equipment and supply management.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential: Substantive post-registration and sexual health experience.

Desirable: Management or team leadership experience.

Qualifications

Essential: RGN (NMC Sub-part 1 Adult), Contraception/Reproductive Health qualification, LOC SDI or equivalent, mentorship certificate.

Skills/Abilities

Essential: Excellent communication, ability to discuss sex and sexuality, experience managing GUM and contraceptive patients, recognizing complications, cultural sensitivity, working with young people, working independently and in teams, competence in genital examinations, venepuncture, HIV PTD, health promotion, teaching, and PGD experience.
